The topics: In the troubled Central African Republic, women organize to claim their rightful, prominent role in shaping the future of their families, communities and country. Lina Ekomo, a leader representing women nationally and internationally, shows how their fight for peace and democracy can benefit generations to come. Ms. Ekomo is the head of a women’s leadership network in the Central African Republic called RELEFCA). She also leads of several African movements advancing this cause. A former United Nations official, she has heard the cries of victims tortured by armed groups, and yet has hope that women can help her country to achieve lasting democracy and peace. That is why she fights for women to take an active part in politics. “I am optimistic about the future of the Central African Republic,” she says. This is the first episode of a new series, “WOMEN LEADERS,” showcasing the extraordinary struggles and accomplishments of female individuals making a difference around the world.
