The topics: Tribute by Ms. Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, to the memory of His Excellency Jovenel Moïse, President of the Republic of Haiti at the 91st plenary meeting, 75th session of the General Assembly. The General Assembly today (14 Jul) paid tribute to slain Haitian President Jovenel Moïse, assassinated last week at his private home outside Port-au-Prince. Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed said “Haiti has had difficult times in the past. It is living through difficult times now.” She told the General Assembly that the United Nations “stands with Haitians in the spirit of solidarity and partnership,” stressing that this partnership “is grounded in helping moving Haiti from emergency approach es to long-lasting solutions; from assistance to investment and cooperation for sustainable development, democracy, and an opportunity for all.” Mohammed said the same values that made Haiti “the first independent Caribbean state by freeing itself from slavery and colonial control” over 200 years ago, “will see Haiti and its people through these trying times to a future of lasting peace and prosperity for all.”
