The topics: Citing the killing of George Floyd, the top United Nations human rights official says radical policing reforms are needed to address systemic racism affecting people of African descent around the world. She is joined by other UN experts as well as George Floyd’s brother, who describes the horrific pain of watching him be tortured to death in broad daylight. “That was a modern-day execution,” says Philonise Floyd. “And it was a lynching that should never have happened.” The High Commissioner’s new report on racial justice and equality finds that law enforcement officers were rarely held accountable for human rights violations and crimes against people of African descent. United States citizen George Floyd was killed by police officer Derek Chauvin, who was captured on video kneeling on Mr. Floyd's neck for more than nine minutes.
