The topics: The COVID-19 pandemic, the climate crisis, threats to peace and other pressing global issues topped the agenda as leaders from around the world continued their annual debate at the United Nations. Ghana’s President cautioned against the use of vaccines as a tool for immigration control, while the President of the Marshall Islands pointed out that climate change leaves low-lying countries “no higher ground to cede.” The King of Jordan said Jerusalem is at the heart of peace in the Middle East, and stated that the city’s holiness to Muslims, Christians and Jews can and must unite all. The annual high-level debate continues through 27 September.
