Launch of the United Nation’s Football for the Goals Initiative | United Nations
On 6 July 2022, Football for the Goals (FFTG) launched with a conversation featuring UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed and UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin, hosted by UN Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications Melissa Fleming. To mark the launch of the new global United Nations initiative, Football for the Goals, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed and the President of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Aleksander Čeferin discuss how this initiative will mobilize the football community in support of the Sustainable Development Goals and drive behavioral change and sustainable practices in the football industry. The conversation is hosted by UN Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications Melissa Fleming. In recognition of SDG 5, to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls, Football for the Goals launches on the opening day of the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022, 6 July 2022. Having recently unveiled its own sustainability strategy, “Strength through Unity,” focusing on human rights and the environment, UEFA joins the initiative as its inaugural member.
