Ukraine/Zaporizhzhia:'We are playing with fire & something very catastrophic could take place”-IAEA

The Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi, briefed the Council on his mission to the plant last week. Grossi said, “The physical attack, wittingly or unwittingly, the hits that this facility has received and that I could personally see and assess together with my experts is simply unacceptable. We are playing with fire and something very, very catastrophic could take place.” The IAEA chief informed that inspectors from the agency have remained at the site and called this situation “unprecedented.” According to Grossi, at the moment, the international community can “agree on a very simple but incredibly necessary protective mechanism to avoid what is happening now, as we speak, which is the shedding of a nuclear power plant.” “Let's seize this opportunity so fundamental for peace for security and to protect the populations of Ukraine and beyond”, the IAEA chief appealed.
