Iran: UN Humanitarian Response following the Khoy earthquake | United Nations



On the night of 28 January 2023, an earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale hit Khoy in north-west Iran. The disaster affected at least 261,000 people and displaced 130,000 from their homes in sub-zero temperatures. The United Nations in Iran (UN-Iran) responded rapidly to a request from national authorities and mounted a multi-agency, One UN response to address all the humanitarian consequences of the disaster including on gender, health, shelter, and education. UN-Iran dispatched emergency relief to the victims, ran a needs assessment mission to the epicenter, and mobilized resources including from @uncerf8747 for disaster transition and recovery.
