#NoToHate: The Cost of Hate Speech | United Nations

We calculate the cost of just about everything: global warming, potholes, sleep deprivation. But we don’t calculate the cost of hate. Hate has a cost—likely a huge one. But what is the figure? Professor Michael Martell estimates that the measurable annual cost of hate crimes is nearly $3.4 billion, with the actual cost likely much higher. The #NoToHate campaign is a global initiative that aims to counter hate speech and promote tolerance and inclusion. It's part of a larger UN effort to combat antisemitism and Islamophobia, racism, discrimination, and intolerance, focusing on preventing human rights violations and promoting peace and equality. The campaign is in line with the United Nations Strategy and Plan of Action on Hate Speech. The International Day for Countering Hate Speech is 18 June. https://www.un.org/en/hate-speech
