The event serves to support the mandate that established the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade. It is hoped that the event contributes to a greater knowledge of slavery and the transatlantic slave trade, the impact it has had on the contemporary world, and the need to address its legacy of racism.
